  3. This Mini-FAQ is posted weekly to answer such questions as:
  4. Where can I ftp MIDI files from
  5. Where can I find the MIDI specs
  6. Where can I find MIDI programs.

  8. ********************************************************************** Notice
  9. Due to copyright problems the MIDI "SONGS" have been removed. We got a threat
  10. about the copyright of some of the files in the SONGS directory. So we had to
  11. decide to (at least temporarily) disable the SONGS directory. I will put back
  12. those files that I am certain will not cause copyright problems, but it could
  13. take a while to sort these out. As I see it now, the following files could
  14. cause problems: 1.Files that are renditions of music of which the copyright
  15. has not yet expired, like pop songs or music by contemporary composers, or
  16. composers who died less than 75 years ago. The 75 may be different in
  17. different countries. 2.Files that are manufactured by a commercial company,
  18. or by anyone who did not give permission to distribute it, even if the music
  19. itself is not copyrighted, e.g. a file containing a piece of Beethoven, made
  20. by a commercial company. Note that there are situations where a file is
  21. copyrighted, but the author or composer has explicitly given permission to
  22. distribute the file (usually with certain restrictions, like you can't change
  23. it or ask money for it).

  25. MIDI related files can be found at ftp.cs.ruu.nl [131.211.80.17]. Midi
  26. programs in /pub/MIDI/PROGRAMS and subdirectories for various computers. MIDI
  27. specs and lots of more doc in /pub/MIDI/DOC/. More ftp sites can be found in
  28. the file /pub/MIDI/DOC/archives
  29. These are also available on the WWW:MIDI archive
  30.  
  31. All these files can be obtained by e-mail. Send a message to
  32. mail-server@cs.ruu.nl with the contents: send HELP.
